Angus MacLellan: First Player in MLR History to Reach 50 Caps

On Saturday, February 19, 2022 Angus MacLellan made history when we stepped onto the pitch and became the first player to reach 50 caps for Major League Rugby.

MacLellan has been a prop with the Utah Warriors since the inaugural season in 2018, making his first MLR appearance on April 28, 2018. His impact has been felt by the team since the very beginning, and by Major League Rugby as a whole when he was named to the All MLR Second-Team in 2021.

Growing up in Michigan, MacLellan began playing rugby in high school with the Traverse City Alliance. MacLellan found his stride at Davenport University where, as captain, he led the Panthers to back-to-back D1 AA National Championships in 2011 and 2012.

MacLellan represents success in rugby pathways growth in North America as he’s earned All-American honors in college, been a part of the USA U20’s team that won the World Rugby U20 Trophy in 2012, and made his debut with the USA Eagles in 2016.

The 29-year-old has already seen a strong start to his fifth season, and is sure to continue making a big impact for the Utah Warriors throughout the 2022 season.

Major League Rugby is honoring the first 50 players to reach 50 caps, and their role in building the legacy of MLR. Angus MacLellan will be honored with a special celebration at the Utah Warriors next home match on Saturday, March 5.
