MLR Week 4 Wrap-Up
RUGBY UNITED NEW YORK 27 – 24 NOLA GOLD
Rugby United New York defeated NOLA Gold 27-24 on Saturday afternoon to hand them their first loss of the 2019 season.
RUNY (2-0) was propelled to victory by their fly-half Cathal Marsh, who accounted for three penalty goals, two conversions and a try to knock off the Gold (3-1). NOLA was undone by their own kicking game, going just 2-for-4 on their conversions and missing their only penalty goal.
Despite the loss, NOLA remains atop the league table with 17 points while RUNY moved into fourth place with eight points.
RUNY will head to Seattle to take on the Seawolves (2-2) while the Gold will enjoy a week off.
SAN DIEGO LEGION 21 – 10 UTAH WARRIORS
The San Diego Legion moved into second place in the MLR tables on Sunday afternoon by holding off the Utah Warriors 21-10.
The Legion (3-1) used an 18-point first half to knock off the Warriors (1-1) in the second match of the weekend. Despite solid defense in the second half, Utah was unable to find a way through San Diego’s equally impressive defensive effort and the weather that picked up in the second half.
Utah’s performance didn’t garner any points, and they dropped down to eighth place in the league table as a result.
San Diego will travel to Austin next week to take on the Elite (0-4) while Utah will welcome the Glendale Raptors (1-2) to town for their first home game of the season in a battle of the Rocky Mountains.
SEATTLE SEAWOLVES 35 – 30 TORONTO ARROWS
The Seattle Seawolves got back on track on Sunday evening with a 35-30 win over the visiting Toronto Arrows.
After trading blows in the first half and going into the locker room tied at 17, the Seawolves (2-2), were able to survive a 13-point second half run by the Arrows (1-2) with an 18-point run of their own to close out the match.
The win gives Seattle 11 points on the season and propels them into third place into the league table while the bonus point that Toronto earned places them in sixth behind the Glendale Raptors with seven points.
Toronto will travel to Houston to take on the SaberCats (1-1) while Seattle will welcome Rugby United New York (2-0) to Starfire Stadium.
