NBC Sports Gold to broadcast Pacific Nations Cup 2019
LAFAYETTE, CO. – Months ahead of its coverage of Rugby World Cup Japan 2019, NBC has extended its commitment to rugby by broadcasting all matches in the Pacific Nations Cup on NBC Sports Gold.
The network will also showcase a matchup between the Men’s Collegiate All-Americans and All-Canadian University XVs who play in a curtain raiser at 3 PM MT before the United States face Canada in the opening round at 6 PM MT on July 27 in Glendale, CO.
A replay of the USA-Canada game will air on NBC Sports’ linear network at a time to be confirmed later. More information is available at nbcsports.com/rugby.
Coverage of the Pacific Nations Cup 2019 comes just over a year after the network showcased the USA Women’s and Men’s Sevens teams in Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 held at AT&T Park last July. In three days, the sport captured roughly 9 million viewers across five NBC telecasts making it the most-watched live-rugby cast in the USA on record. With more World Cup coverage on the horizon, the network has continued its ongoing endeavor to introduce new and existing U.S. sports fans to rugby.
The Pacific Nations Cup will feature six participating teams — all ranked in the world’s top 25 — including No. 9 Fiji, No. 11 Japan, No. 13 Tonga, No. 15 United States, No. 16 Samoa and No. 21 Canada. Following the opening round in Glendale between long-time rivals USA and Canada, the U.S. will travel to Fiji for two games against Samoa and Rugby World Cup hosts Japan.
