Join The Conversation: Bringing Fans Into the Broadcast

For years, watching rugby has been about showing up, in the stands, on the couch, or wherever you can catch the game. But this season, Major League Rugby is taking that a step further.

We’re turning the broadcast into a two-way experience.

As a part of Major League Rugby's mission to put fans at the center of everything it does, MLR is excited to announce the “Join The Conversation” initiative, putting fans directly into the live match experience.

From broadcast innovations to social-first storytelling, the league is focused on creating a more connected, responsive, and engaging environment where fans feel seen, heard, and valued. It’s about breaking down the barrier between the game and the audience, turning moments into shared experiences, and building a league that reflects the energy, personality, and passion of its community.

Whether you’re watching from home or inside the stadium, your voice now has a place on screen. For the first time, you can Join The Conversation.

How does it work?

At its core, it’s simple.

Fans can post on social media using the official match hashtag: before the game, during the action, or even after the final whistle, and selected posts will appear live on broadcast and in-venue screens.

It’s fast, it’s real-time, and it’s designed to reflect the energy of the fans as the game unfolds.

How do I join the conversation?

Using live content curation tools, we’re able to surface fan posts within seconds and bring them straight into the broadcast.

That means:

  • Real-time fan comments featured during matches

  • Interactive moments like live polls and trivia

  • Social content displayed seamlessly alongside the action

The goal is simple, make the fan experience feel as live and dynamic as the game itself.

What kind of posts will make it on screen?

We’re looking for the full spectrum of rugby fandom: from heartfelt to hilarious.

Support and hype:

  • “Let’s go Chicago Hounds 🐶🔥”

  • “Free Jacks, Let’s Ride”

  • “Good luck boys!”

Moments that matter:

  • “Happy Birthday Connor Mooneyham 🎂”

  • “First rugby game, I’m hooked”

  • “Watching from Dublin at 2am, so worth it”

And the kind of chaos that makes sport fun:

  • “Hey mom, I'm on TV!!”

  • “If Nathan Salmon scores I’m naming my dog after him”

  • “I don’t understand scrums but I support them emotionally”

  • “Camera 3, zoom in, I’m waving”

  • “If we win this I’m texting my ex”

If it feels like something you’d shout from the stands, it probably belongs here.

Where you’ll see it

Join The Conversation will be integrated across:

  • Live game broadcasts

  • In-stadium big screens

  • Social and second-screen experiences

Wherever you’re watching, you’ll be part of the same shared moment.

Why this matters

Rugby has always been about community. The conversations, the inside jokes, the shared highs and lows, that’s what makes the sport special.

This integration brings that culture into the broadcast itself.

It’s not just about watching the game anymore.

It’s about seeing yourself in it.

How to get involved

It all starts with the hashtag.

Post your thoughts, your reactions, your celebrations , and keep an eye on the screen. You might just see your message come to life in the middle of the action.

This season, don’t just watch the game.

Join the conversation.
