CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Old Glory DC wasted no time setting the tone Saturday afternoon, erupting for four first-half tries in a 31-14 win over Anthem RC to secure back-to-back victories on the road.
For Head Coach Simon Cross, the focus this week was clear: clean up the early struggles that kept them in a close contest with New England. Old Glory’s first half this Saturday wasn’t just cleaner—it was surgical, building a commanding 26-0 halftime lead.
Facing a third straight test on the road, Old Glory matched Anthem’s physicality from the opening whistle. Anthem applied early pressure deep in Old Glory territory, but DC held firm defensively, turning away multiple phases near the goal line. A loose-ball turnover quickly flipped the field, and a well-placed kick from Jason Robertson pushed play back inside Anthem’s 22.
Old Glory capitalized on its field position moments later. Working off the lineout, DC quickly moved the ball wide before Fullback Max Schumacher finished the sequence in the eighth minute, crossing for the opening try.
From there, Old Glory kept its foot on the gas. Perry Humphreys broke free down the sideline for the second try, and sustained pressure inside Anthem’s 22 led to another score from Kirby Myhill just five minutes later. The dominant first-half surge was capped off with a long breakaway effort from John Rizzo, extending the lead to 26-0 at halftime.
Momentum shifted toward Anthem out of the break as they struck twice to cut into the deficit. Center Will Leonard put Anthem’s first try on the board, and a conversion from Karl
Keane made it 26-7.
Moments later, a lineout set up a second try from Anthem’s co-captain Johannes Momson, but Old Glory shut it down. The score was overturned for obstruction after a successful challenge from DC, halting the surge before it could take shape.
Old Glory quickly regained control, applying pressure deep in Anthem territory. Perry Humphreys created another scoring chance, setting up Center Ross Depperschmidt for a
try that pushed the lead to 31-7.
Anthem would add a late score, but the result was never in doubt.
Aidan King delivered a standout performance on the defensive end, finishing with 11 tackles and two turnovers while making his presence felt throughout the entire match. His efforts earned him Player of the Match honors.
With the win, Old Glory caps off their road tour at 2-1 and returns home next week for its first game in its new home stadium at George Mason. After back-to-back road victories, the club will look to carry that momentum into its home opener against California Legion.
