Sam Windsor Achieves 50 MLR Caps
On Saturday, March 19th Sam Windsor became the third player in Major League Rugby to take the pitch for 50 matches. Windsor has been with MLR since the very beginning.
He spent the first four seasons with the Houston SaberCats and played in every single match of their 45 appearances since MLR began. Entering the 2022 season, Windsor was MLR’s all-time leading point scorer with 320 points. He was an integral part of the SaberCats team not only on the pitch, but off it as well. Throughout the many changes that the SaberCats went through over four seasons, Windsor was the consistent leader. His impact was undeniable amongst the team, coaches, organization, and community.

Entering 2022, Windsor surprised many when he made the decision to move to Rugby New York. His new team has seen early success with a 5-1 start to the season, including the team’s 30-19 win over NOLA Gold on Saturday. The team currently sits at #1 in the Eastern Conference standings.

Major League Rugby is honoring the first 50 players to reach 50 caps, and their role in building the legacy of MLR. The first player to reach 50 caps was Angus McLellan of the Utah Warriors, and the second was Tim Metcher of the Seattle Seawolves.
Stay tuned for more announcements as players reach the 50 caps milestone, and cement their spot in Major League Rugby’s history.
